5th World Congress on Justice With Children - Madrid 2-4 June 2025

The 5th World Congress on Justice With Children, organised by the Global Initiative JWC, brought together stakeholders from across the globe. Taking place every five years, these World Congresses address critical challenges faced by child justice systems.
The event served as an interactive platform for meaningful discussions and collective action, bringing together global leaders and experts, child justice practitioners, policymakers, academics, civil society representatives, as well as children and young people themselves.
Since 2022, a dozen Preparatory Meetings have taken place both in person and virtually in Belgium, Colombia, India, Pakistan, South Africa, Spain, Thailand, and the USA, gathering global trends in child justice and helping to shape the 2025 World Congress on Justice With Children's theme.
Theme and Objectives
“Advancing Child-Centred Justice: Preventing and Responding to Violence Affecting Children in Child Justice Systems”
The 5th World Congress in 2025 focused on advancing child-centred justice, as well as preventing and responding to violence affecting children in justice systems. The Congress emphasised the critical need for justice systems to place children at the centre while addressing and preventing escalating violence and systemic challenges that jeopardised their safety and development worldwide.
Promote fair and appropriate justice systems for and with all children worldwide
Provide a space for professionals to exchange best practices, foster scientific cooperation, formulate policy recommendations, and raise awareness about child-centred justice
Support justice system reform to comply better with international child rights standards and to develop a certain form of resilience to face those societal changes
Achieving the global ambition of justice for all in the light of the action undertaken to implement the SDG 16+ agenda
